Lindsay Hopper

Lindsay Hopper has been involved with the aquaculture industry for over 15years.  Having completed a Masters of Applied Science in Aquaculture at the University of Tasmania, Lindsay has gained a comprehensive understanding of the many segments of the aquaculture industry, with practical and theoretical knowledge covering the wide range of species that make up this diverse and ever changing industry.

Lindsay grew up on a family owned dairy farm before going on to study at Tocal Agricultural College.  This agricultural background has given Lindsay a good understanding of animal husbandry, which he believes is paramount for success in the aquaculture industry.

During this study at the local agricultural college, Lindsay developed an interest in aquaculture, which later grew into his lifelong passion. After obtaining the Advanced Certificate in Agriculture, Lindsay  further pursued his interest in aquaculture by enrolling at the premier aquaculture study institution in Australia, The University of Tasmania.  Six years of full time studies followed as he completed the Associate Diploma, Diploma, Post Graduate and Masters in Aquaculture.

In May 1997, Lindsay was employed by Aquasonic Pty Ltd to be part of the sales team. He is now the sales manager and heads an enthusiastic sales team. His current position involves working closely with farmers and research institutions, both nationally and internationally, including hands on installations, sizing, applying and general consultancy. His work covers virtually the entire industry, including all the commercially grown species in Australia and overseas, hatchery, grow out (indoor and outdoor) and the live seafood holding and public aquarium fields.  Lindsay recently traveled to Indonesia where he installed some of Aquasonic's recirculation systems for the farming of  Barramundi Cod, one of the most sort after marine species in the world. Lindsay's position also involves the acquisition of products and representing Aquasonic Pty Ltd at conferences and trade shows again on a national and international level.

The Presentation

O2b2 Bubble Diffuser Tubing is an innovative and unique flexible, self weighted aeration tubing that can give you the opportunity to cut the cost of aerating your ponds significantly.  Suitable for just about any pond with a water depth greater than 1.5m water depth, this aeration method produces a very small bubble size (0.25-1.6mm) resulting in a very high oxygen transfer efficiency, easy to apply and can be operated from one central air supply blower.  Significantly cutting down on the requirement to have a motor (e.g. Paddle Wheel) on each pond.  When compared to applying paddle wheels, this aeration technique has already proved to reduce the power consumption by 50-60% and have a ROI of only around 8 months in some cases.  This I am sure you would agree would be a substantial decrease in your operational costs in rearing your fish.  Low maintenance, long life, highly efficient passive aeration system.  If you currently use paddle wheels, you are going to be very interested in seeing information on this system.
Introducing the “Polygeysers”.  These newly designed filtration units are the “mark 2” of the patented Bubble Bead Filters.  The new Polygeysers are a powerful filtration system that can be used for both biological and or particulate filtration in just about any application.  Ideally suited for recirculation, holding and purging systems, display aquariums and oceanarium applications where the one filter can even perform the hole filtration task, they can filter down to 5 microns, and have a substantial biological filtration capability when compared to other biological filter designs.  One of the significant advantages of the Polygeyser is that it is almost fully automatic, thus having almost zero labour involvement.  The Polygeysers have a unique design that allows automatic pneumatic (air) backwashing of the filter to occur with the added bonus of no water needed to perform the task, this can save you water, time and money.

DAN Monitoring & Control System.  This is an amazingly innovative system that can monitor just about anything, control devices and you can find out what is happening instantly, where ever you are.  A single DMO1 Data Control Centre can monitor up to 6 inputs (e.g. 6 x DO probes), send recorded data to the web site, send alarms and allow you to contact the control center and obtain instantaneous data at any time.  This system platform has the ability to be tailored specifically to your requirements, and it won’t cost you the earth.  It is a cost effective system that can improve the productivity of your facility, whether it be pond or recirculation systems or anything in between, give you peace of mind, automatic control and the knowledge as a result of obtaining recorded data to create a history of information to best manage your farm.  This system will simply save you….
