Ian Yarroll

New head for aquaculture

The Queensland Fisheries Service (QFS) welcomes a new acting general manager for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (FAD). Ian Yarroll brings to the position wide-ranging experience in science, environmental management, and importantly aquaculture development.

Mr. Yarroll has joined QFS for 12 months following 10 years at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where he fulfilled a diverse role overseeing the assessment and management of major projects such as aquaculture developments, power stations and dams.

Before joining EPA, he worked in a variety of industries from steel to brewing, which made the most of his skills gained from a degree in pure and applied chemistry.

Mr. Yarroll’s role at EPA saw him work closely with QFS staff particularly those in the fish habitat and aquaculture areas.

He sees his role at QFS as a natural extension to the work being carried out at EPA bringing the strong points and knowledge from each Department together.

Mr. Yarroll is looking forward to the challenge of the next 12 months, particularly working with QFS during the adoption of the Integrated Planning Act (IPA) 1997.

We will hear Ian's plans for the future of his department and how this will affect our sector.

There are so many changes occurring within Government and aquaculture Ian will discuss a range of things happening in State Government, particularly in DPI/QFS, including:
